A perspective for local denominational organizations/judicatories on how they best empower their churches to serve from the base of their local context.
George, how have you seen stumbling associations move their field service from just serving pastors to focusing on congregations as well? As an AMS I find building relationships with others in the congregation past the pastor has been a unique challenge.
Zac, yes that can be a challenge. You must be intentional about it. Here are some actions--in now particular order. 1. Database: Seek to expand your associational database. Pull names of leaders from churches off the Annual Church Profile, and add them to your database and newsletter mailing/distribution list. 2. Relationships: Build relationships with laypersons as you visit with churches for worship or other times. One AMS I know carries database cards with him and asks laypersons he strikes up conversations with to complete one. 3. Interim Times: This is one of the best times to get to know laypersons. As you can see, I believe it is about getting to know laypersons. But it is more than that. I will adsdress this on my nezxt videoconference on this subject on Wednesday, September 7th. Are you on the list to receive notification of these?
